Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement, which you will receive upon booking confirmation or when you collect your vehicle. This document outlines specific terms, conditions, insurance information, charges, and your responsibilities for the rental. In the event of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Requirements for Vehicle Rental
- To hire a vehicle from Speke, drivers must be at least 21 years old, although age restrictions may differ depending on the vehicle type. A valid driving licence suitable for the vehicle category is required, along with identification and proof of current address. Valid payment information and a security deposit are also necessary, as well as any further requirements outlined in the Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payment Process
- Reservations can be made via our website, over the phone, or directly at our Dartford office. To confirm your booking, a deposit may be necessary. The remaining balance and a security deposit are generally payable at the time of vehicle pickup. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include applicable VAT. Major credit and debit cards are accepted, processed securely through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- Upon collecting your vehicle, please conduct a comprehensive inspection and report any pre-existing damage without delay. A vehicle condition report will be created and must be signed by you. It is expected that the vehicle is returned in the same condition it was collected, taking into account normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and charges applied accordingly. The vehicle should also be returned with the same fuel level as when it was picked up; refueling fees will be applied if the fuel level is lower. Late returns may result in additional charges, so please inform us as soon as possible if you anticipate any delays. You will be held responsible for any parking fines, traffic violations, or other charges incurred during your rental, along with an administration fee.
Insurance and Responsibility
- All rentals come with basic third-party insurance, with full details and excess amounts outlined in the Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may be available to limit your financial liability, so reviewing these is advisable. You will be liable for any damage or loss up to the excess amount, unless additional coverage is purchased. Damage resulting from negligence or misuse remains your responsibility, regardless of insurance.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice provided. For precise information, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or failure to show up may incur additional charges.
Prohibited Activities
Prohibited Uses of the Vehicle
- Use of the vehicle for any unlawful activities is prohibited. Engaging in racing, rallying, off-roading, or any other dangerous pursuits is not allowed. Transporting hazardous materials or sub-letting the vehicle to others is strictly forbidden. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, as well as exceeding passenger or weight limits, is not permitted. Operating outside the designated geographical boundaries requires prior approval.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental termination and extra fees.
Liability Limitations
To the fullest extent allowed under English and Welsh law, Speke Car Hire will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, resulting from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims will not exceed the rental amount paid in the previous 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury due to negligence or for fraudulent activities.
9. Applicable Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes will fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in this region.

Speke reserves the right to update these Terms at any time. Changes take effect immediately upon posting on our website. Continued use of our services indicates acceptance of the revised Terms.
